A SOCIETY OF BACH LOVERS.

The Bach Society Brazil is a cultural organization dedicated to the historical performance of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Founded in 2020 in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, by an enthusiastic group of professionals and lovers of Baroque music, the society seeks to reclaim the authenticity of the German composer's music through performances with period instruments by Baroque music specialists from Brazil and abroad.

The Bach Brazil Concert Series is one of the main projects of the Bach Society Brazil, presenting a new online or in-person program every month, which has already accumulated 30 successful concerts in terms of audience and critical acclaim. Furthermore, one of the organization's missions is to make available online high-quality recordings of all of Bach's works, performed by Brazilian artists. The online concerts, available for free on YouTube, are available in their entirety and in videos separated by work, accompanied by historical commentary.

Currently, the Bach Society Brazil is a non-profit cultural association, aiming to expand its reach nationally through educational projects and festivals, funded by the combined efforts of supporters and sponsors.

With artistic direction by harpsichordist and conductor Fernando Cordella, an internationally recognized scholar of Baroque music, and a core group of nine outstanding musicians, the Ensemble Bach Brasil is committed to disseminating the richness of Bach's work and contributing to the development of new audiences and musicians in Brazil.

Our Mission

We started our concerts in 2020 and today, in addition to being a circle of friends and music lovers, the Bach Society Brazil is also a non-profit cultural association.

As Bach Societies

Bach was born in 1685 in Eisenach and died in Leipzig in 1750, in what is now Germany. Although he was recognized for his musical talent during his lifetime, his work remained almost entirely forgotten until the beginning of the 19th century, when it was rediscovered. The "Bach societies," which emerged from this period in Europe and America, represent efforts to preserve and disseminate the work of this incomparable composer. In the first half of the 20th century, there was a "Bach Society" in Brazil, which ceased to exist a few decades ago. With emotion, enthusiasm, and enormous responsibility, it now re-emerges as the fruit of a collective passion for his work.
